We are a micro saltwater farm in the Mount Desert Island area raising Certified Naturally Grown produce using our local seaweed, horse manure and brewery waste to create compost to feed our crops and build our soil. We grow a wide array of crops for ourselves and the local population. We are especially proud and grateful to have Cleonice Restaurant in Ellsworth, Redbird Provisions Restaurant in Northeast Harbor and A&B Naturals in Bar Harbor as our clients. Chefs Rich Hanson (Cleonice) and Jesse Perrin (Redbird Provisions)are extraordinary chefs and I would highly recommend their cuisine.

The big picture. As time allows we are using some permaculture principles to design our site to best utilize our resources. We have many native apple trees of different age and species that are utilized to create food for the pigs, fuel for the woodstove and also as part of a forest garden system.

2007 was our first year market gardening and was very encouraging. 2008 has thus far been quite successful and we are finding demand is ever increasing for local fresh produce

This is our post and beam home we designed and built in 2004 and 2005.
If you click on the picture you can see the chicken house at the left end of the driveway, the skiff we use to pull lobster traps, the kitchen garden and the pig we raised last year.

Well, we have a new president, the leaves are off the trees, lobstering season is over, all our wonderful company has come and gone, and now we are looking forward to Thanksgiving. We will be collecting firewood for the winter from all the trees Doug cut down last year. This is one of our favorite chores to do together. Like Doug says, collecting firewood warms you three times, the day you cut it, the day you collect and stack it, and the day you burn it! Today we collect and stack it!

Lettuce, spinach, bunching onions, carrots, mesclun mix are all still being harvested from the greenhouses, and we are still enjoying the last of summer's Brandywine and Early Girl tomatoes that have been ripening all over the house! Tomatoes in November....awesome!

We are looking forward to seeing more friends and family in the next couple months. Our door is always open and the guest room is always ready!

Until soon,

A & D
